Dennis Rodman. Legendary rebounder. Provocateur. Reality star. Actor on the world stage.
Dennis has been lucky enough to play many roles and experience many different careers over his incredibly interesting life. Known for pivoting off the court as much as on the court, Dennis gained fame as one of professional basketball’s all-time great rebounders; cultivated notoriety with his tattoos, piercings, and wild hair; went on to become a reality TV star; chiseled at the wall separating North Korea and the West; and is now applying a few lifetimes of experience as a savvy businessman.
Dennis Keith Rodman was born on May 13, 1961, in Trenton, New Jersey. His single mother moved the family to Dallas and exhibited the scrappiness that Dennis would inherit both on and off the court by taking any odd job that came her way to keep her son and two daughters fed and clothed.
While not a powerhouse in high school (he was only 5’6”), Dennis quickly grew into one after graduation, becoming a 6’7” force on the local basketball courts. After stints at junior college and Southeast Oklahoma State, he was drafted in the second round of the 1986 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.
Dennis’s NBA career is one of legends. Tenures with the Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks netted him five NBA championships (including the second Bulls three-peat featuring Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen), two NBA All-Star Game appearances, and two NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards--not to mention a few hundred awesome hairstyles and equally awesome off-court romances with celebrities like Madonna and Carmen Electra. But it was his on-the-court skills, talent, and hard work that landed Dennis in the NBA Hall of Fame in 2011.
His eccentric behavior combined with expressing himself through those wild hairstyles, colorful fashion ensembles, hundreds of tattoos, and dozens of piercings made Dennis an obvious reality star in the making. He subsequently made two appearances on Donald Trump's business competition The Apprentice. Known for his wild lifestyle, Dennis also attempted to clean up his act on Celebrity Rehab and Sober House in 2010.
Always unpredictable, Dennis also tried his hand at diplomacy in February 2013. He traveled to North Korea for two days and met with the country's leader, Kim Jong-un. The two share a love of basketball, and in between discussions about world affairs watched a game together during Dennis’s visit.
Over the past four decades, Dennis has emerged as one of the sharpest and most creative minds on the planet. He has worked to elevate himself from being a piece of the puzzle to solving the puzzle. But Dennis is not finished by any means; he stays busy applying the savvy business acumen that helped him build his brand to numerous genres and platforms. Let him share his journey with your team and his view of the worlds of business, sports, celebrity, and international intrigue that he’s not only observed, but been a part of. Your audience will be enamored with the extraordinary off-the-cuff storytelling, witty banter, and engaging conversations that could only come from The Worm himself.
