A few years ago, a car hit Kyla Bauer while she was on her bike. She had never seen so many doctors or gone to so many doctor visits. She spent a year and a half in recovery, battled insurance disputes until she found a lawyer, and lost all her savings even though she had good health insurance and worked with 18 doctors and nurses. Ms. Bauer turned to patient advocacy to help companies and their employees avoid financial pitfalls during times of serious illness and injury. She has been supporting healthcare startups for the past 7 years and worked with the NFL Players Association and Cleveland Clinic to expand their Brain & Body program. Before healthcare, Ms. Bauer managed a variety of research projects for public universities and the U.S. Geological Survey.
