Use Behavioral Science to Change Employee Behavior
Employees may have good intentions but we don’t necessarily convert them into action. Employers would want them to reach office on time but they don’t. Employees may want to do proactive work, but don’t. Employees may want to develop good listening skills, but in the heat of the discussion, forget. Getting employees to take action is tough.
Conscious attempts to persuade employees like motivational talks and training are time consuming, money draining and unsustainable at getting employees to take desired actions. You will get simple, low cost, scalable nudges directed at employees’ subconscious which are far more effective at making employees act in the desired way.
For example, behavioral science studies have shown that when at work employees sit around a circular table, they tend to give preference to the group’s goals compared to giving preference to individual goals when they sit in rectangular cubicles or employees that are part of work that has failed, but have been given plum assignments thereafter instead of being penalized, encourages experimentation and innovation in the organization.
